Councillors will consider a revised Publication Local Plan at a meeting of Full Council at 7.30pm on Thursday 18 October at the Basildon Centre. The Local Plan is a document that sets out how Basildon borough will change over a period of time and is also reactive to changes. It sets out the council’s strategy for development and growth in the Basildon borough up to 2034 and the planning policies that will be applied in assessing planning applications during that period. It will determine what can be built and where.
The Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Committee agreed to recommend the plan to Full Council at its meeting on Wednesday 3 October.
As the agenda and reports for Full Council were published, Cllr Richard Moore, Basildon Council’s Chairman of the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Committee, said: “We are committed to ensuring the Local Plan is the best it can be and balances local housing need, business growth potential whilst also considering an infrastructure first approach.
“After the resolution at extraordinary Council in June 2018 to reconsider in detail specific matters included in the rescinded Local Plan, the Committee has now given careful consideration to those specific matters and taken into account all the relevant evidence. The Committee is recommending a revised version of the Local Plan to Council which it believe balances what the borough needs with some of the concerns of residents.”
Please bear in mind this is a meeting held in public rather than a public meeting. However, people are welcome to attend and observe proceedings at the Basildon Centre or can view the webcast live.
