Essex drug driver admits causing fatal collision

A drug driver has admitted causing a collision in Wickham Bishops where a man died.

David Jones, who was 39 and from Southminster, died after a collision involving the silver Ford Fiesta he was driving and a black BMW 520 shortly after 11pm on October 10, 2018.

Both vehicles left the road and the Fiesta had come to rest in a hedge.

Sadly, Mr Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the BMW, 21 year-old Marcus Wood, was arrested later that night and was charged the following day.

Wood, of the The Street, Terling pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while impaired through drugs and escaping lawful custody at a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court today (Thursday, February 28).

He is due to be sentenced at a later date.
