Basildon Council’s Animal Control team and representatives from the Dogs Trust will be at Basildon Park Run on Saturday (28 April) to promote exercise for pets.
The free 5k run in Northlands Park, Pitsea, will begin as usual at 9am, with dogs welcome to join in. Free information on responsible dog ownership and microchipping will be available in the park until noon.
The event has been organised as part of National Pet Month, which has been taking place throughout April to educate owners and celebrate the mutual benefits of living with pets.
Sarah Moran, Animal Control Officer at Basildon Council, said: “Our parks are shared spaces and it is really important that all users get along, whether they are people or animals.
“Everyone knows that exercise is vital for our own health and wellbeing, but it is also one of the main welfare needs for dogs. This event is all about ensuring pet owners know how to keep their animals fit, healthy and stimulated.”
