Homeless man who raped vulnerable person in Southend jailed for 10 years

A homeless man who raped a vulnerable person with learning difficulties in the Southend area has been jailed for 10 years.

Ilie Ciubotaru, 30, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court today, Friday, August 17, after a five-day trial concluded and a jury unanimously found him guilty.

On Saturday, December 11, 2016, Ciubotaru knocked at a man’s door at around 1am. He walked in, took his clothes off and grabbed the victim’s arm and shoulder, injuring him.

Ciubotaru then raped the victim, knocking him to the floor and hitting his head. The man managed to alert a neighbour and we attended to find Ciubotaru in the victim’s home.
