Basildon Council has removed an abandoned trailer from a plot of land known as Dunromin to the south of Hovefields Drive, Wickford.
An Untidy Land Notice was served on 26 January 2018 after the owners of the plot failed to respond to previous warnings. Under section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, local authorities have the power to serve Notice on the owner of any land or building which is in such a condition that it adversely affects the appearance of the area.
The former asbestos decontamination unit was removed after the landowners failed to comply with the Notice or lodge an appeal.
A Basildon Council spokesperson said: “We would like to thank Essex Police for their assistance in attending the operation.
“We acted to remove the abandoned trailer after previous warnings and attempts to cooperate with the owners of the land were ignored. The Town and Country Planning Act states that as a local authority we have the power to require proper maintenance of land.
“The trailer is still available to be claimed by the owner by contacting Basildon Council.”
