Essex County Council’s Executive Director, Social Care and Education, Dave Hill, has been made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours List.
Dave Hill joined the County Council in 2010 from Croydon Council as Executive Director for Schools, Children and Families. In 2013 he took on a new role as Executive Director of People Commissioning, including the statutory roles of Director of Children’s Services and Director of Adult Social Services.
Originally trained as a social worker, he has worked for local authorities since 1977.
Between April 2016 and March 2017, Dave was President of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) and is now the immediate past President. He is a trustee for Become (originally the Who Cares? Trust) and is the Children’s Commissioner for children’s services at Norfolk County Council and Birmingham City Council, helping both authorities improve their performance in the area.
