Plans for 60 Independent Living homes for older people in Clacton get green-light

Plans for 60 Independent Living homes for older people will “breathe new life” into a derelict plot of land thanks to another flagship Essex County Council development.

Essex Housing has undertaken design and secured planning permission to build on the former NHS site in Coppins Road, Clacton, which has been empty for more than seven years.

It is the Council’s third Independent Living scheme in the Tendring district, following the opening of Rosebank Park in Harwich and Beaumont House in Walton-on-the-Naze.

The complex scheme, which has a shared restaurant, garden, salon and lounge, allows people to live independently in the comfort of their own homes, so they can enjoy longer lives without needing to depend on social care services.

Cllr John Spence, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We have pledged to invest £27 million over the next five years to create 1,800 Independent Living homes across Essex.”
