A police cordon is in place in Witham following the launch of a rape investigation.
We received a call at around 12.15am this morning, July 21, with reports that a woman had been attacked near River Walk.
It is believed to have happened around 20 minutes before the call was made.
The victim has been safeguarded and is being supported by specialist officers.
No arrests have been made.
Residents can expect to see the cordon in place in Armond Road and River Walk for the remainder of the day.
People will also see an increased police presence in this area of Witham. This is to provide reassurance to local residents and to further the investigation.
