Secretary of State welcomes Basildon Council’s progress on Local Plan

Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Sajid Javid has written to Cllr Gavin Callaghan, Chair of Basildon Council’s Policy and Resources Committee, to note and welcome the council’s progress on its Local Plan, while warning the council must continue to meet its published timetable.

The letter was sent on Friday 23 March, a day which had started in the early hours with Basildon Council approving a draft Local Plan for publication and public consultation prior to submission to the Secretary of State.

To meet its published timetable the council must now publish the plan and conduct a six-week public consultation beginning after local elections in May. It must then process all consultation responses and submit the plan, along with all the consultation responses and supporting evidence, to the Secretary of State in August 2018 to commence an Examination in Public.

A copy of the letter from the Secretary of State is attached.
